As the headline goes...

This was the competition which I was involved and which we have won the open tender earlier on.

"The Xiamen MRT Line One-Zhongshan Park in Fujian, China was awarded the “Best Urban Design Project 2013” at the Singapore Institute of Planners (SIP) Planning Awards on 28th November 2013.
Held once every two years, the Awards is organised by the SIP and it recognises excellent work rendered by leading urban planning and consultancy firms in Singapore. Besides design excellence, the winning entry should also reflect a significant advancement in its practice for the benefit of the community." - CPG Intranet.

Jury’s Citation:
With substantial presentation materials devoted to macro urban planning aspects, the Judges almost overlooked the intricacy of charming and organic urban design scheme with simulated architectural forms, which are intimately human scale & people oriented, and sensitively complementing nearby heritage district.
The Judges recognised that the urban designers were faced with a tough challenge of handling an awkward and longish triangular precinct, broken by a number of crisscrossing roadways. With the use of levels, the designers managed to stitch the entire precinct together and cleverly achieved seamless connections from basement MRT to level 2 elevated pedestrian safe haven, free from vehicles.
The planning makes good consideration for sustainability framework with 5 U Design Approach, embracing Content, Water, Climate, Ecological and Energy Sensitivities.
Strategies are mapped out for 3 major phases, from incubation, growth to mature stage, starting with housing relocation and the establishment of community service centre and then to develop boutique hotel, offices & residential units

*The panel of judges comprises four distinguished and influential individuals in the urban planning and design professions, led by Chief Judge Dr Liu Thai-Ker, Director of RSP Architects Planners & Engineers Sigapore, together with Professor HengChye Kiang, Dean of School of Design and Environment at National University of Singapore, TnHjMdNazri Mohd Noordin, President of Malaysian Institute of Planners and Mr William HL Lau, President of SIP.
